Work with selected text

Everything starts the same way: select text, press the shortcut, choose an action.

How to use it

  1. Select the text

Highlight only what you want to work on, in any app: mail, a browser, an editor, a chat or a terminal.

  2. Press the shortcut

Press ⌘⇧R. A small panel of actions opens next to your text.

  3. Choose an action

Click one, or press ⌘ with the number shown beside it. You can also start an action from the Verbiqo menu bar icon.

  4. Check the result

Rewrites replace your selection. The other actions answer in a window beside it and leave your text alone.

Full descriptions are on What it does.

What is protected

Email addresses, links, file paths, hostnames and version numbers are checked after a rewrite. If the model changed one, Verbiqo refuses the replacement and your text stays as it was.

Verbiqo also remembers exactly which app and which text you selected. If you move the cursor or edit the text while it is working, it stops rather than write in the wrong place.

When text is replaced by copy and paste

Some apps do not let other apps change their text directly. There, Verbiqo copies your selection and pastes the result instead. It tells you before it does this, and puts your clipboard back afterwards.

Clipboard history. If you use a clipboard-history app, it may keep a copy of the text you selected. Turn off Allow keyboard/clipboard fallback for compatible apps in Settings if that is not acceptable for your work. Read the clipboard disclosure.

Using the text around your selection

By default only your selection is sent. Turn on Send the text around my selection in Settings to also send up to 500 characters on each side. This helps a rewrite match the surrounding tone and lets Draft a reply see the thread. Explain and Translate never use it.
