Install and set up

Setting up takes a few minutes and is done once. Everything here can be changed later in Settings.

Requirements

  • A Mac with macOS 13 or later, Apple Silicon or Intel; or, with the beta given out on request, a PC with Windows 10 or 11, 64-bit.
  • An AI service to use: a model on your own computer (for example through Ollama), one your organization provides, or an account with a cloud provider.

To ask about your systems, set the model’s context window, timeout and temperature as in Requirements and settings. The defaults suit writing, not investigations.

Install

  1. Download

Choose the download for your Mac from the download section: Apple Silicon for M-series Macs, Intel for older ones.

  2. Move it to Applications

Open the downloaded file and drag Verbiqo to your Applications folder.

  3. Open it

Open Verbiqo from Applications. It has no main window: its icon appears in the menu bar at the top of the screen, and everything starts from there.

On Windows

  • Availability: the Windows beta is unsigned and given out on request; it is not a download on verbiqo.app. Request access.
  • Installer: run the Verbiqo-…-windows-x64-setup.exe you were given. It installs for you alone; your administrator can install it for everyone on the PC.
  • Chocolatey, where your organization publishes it: choco install verbiqo, and choco upgrade verbiqo later. An upgrade closes Verbiqo, installs, and starts it again; nothing needs closing by hand.
  • Verbiqo lives in the notification area by the clock, and on the taskbar. Right-click the taskbar button to pin it.

Allow Accessibility

On a Mac, Verbiqo needs Accessibility permission to read the text you select and to put the result back in the same place. Windows needs no permission for this.

  1. Open the setting

macOS asks the first time. If it does not, open System Settings, then Privacy & Security, then Accessibility.

  2. Turn Verbiqo on

Switch on Verbiqo in the list. If it is already on but the shortcut does nothing, switch it off and on again.

Choose an AI service

Verbiqo sends your text to the AI service you choose here, and nowhere else.

Before people rely on a model, check it is fit for Verbiqo: Choose and check a model has the one-line check, the models tested so far and the server settings for each.

AI providerChoose it whenWhere your text goes
OllamaYou run a model on your own computer, or your organization runs Ollama for you.Your computer, or your organization's server.
OpenAI-compatibleYou use OpenAI, or a gateway your organization runs that speaks the same language (such as LiteLLM or vLLM).The address you enter.
Anthropic APIYou have an Anthropic account.Anthropic.
  1. Open Settings

Click the Verbiqo icon in the menu bar and choose Settings….

  2. Pick the provider

Choose one under AI provider. The Endpoint fills in with the usual address; change it if your organization gave you a different one. If that service uses your organization’s own certificate, choose its CA file under Trusted CA, just below (how).

  3. Add your key, if there is one

Cloud providers and most organization gateways need an API key. It is kept in the macOS Keychain or Windows Credential Manager.

  4. Load the models

Press Test & Load Models, then choose a Model. If the list is empty, type the model's name.

  5. Set context, timeout and temperature

For questions about your systems: Context window 32768, Timeout (ms) 300000, Temperature 0.2. Why: Requirements and settings.

  6. Save

Press Save. For a service outside your computer, Verbiqo asks you to confirm where your text will be sent. Press I Understand and Use This Endpoint to continue.

Before you use a cloud service, check that you are allowed to send the kind of text you work with to it. Its own terms, logging and retention apply.

Set your shortcut

The shortcut is ⌘⇧R on a Mac and CtrlShiftR on Windows. If another app already uses it, choose a different one under Global shortcut in Settings.

Start at login

Turn on Launch Verbiqo at login in Settings so the shortcut is always there. macOS may ask you to approve it under System Settings, then General, then Login Items.
